Technical

The purpose of this page is to enable Technicians and Sound Engineers at venues to prepare for a performance by the band.

We will normally bring our own Sound Engineer with us, either to set up and operate our own PA system or to liaise with the venue’s in-house technicians to assist in dynamically balancing the band throughout the songs. We can provide prompt sheets as necessary.

See below for a copy of the stage plan showing the positioning of the musicians and their requirements for microphones, DI boxes and power supplies.

If we are using the venue’s PA system in its entirety our stage requirements may be summarised as follows –

  • Vocal microphones on boom stands x 4
  • Drum microphones with stands x 4
  • DI boxes x 4
  • Main power supply x 6
  • 5 xlr feeds for our own stage foldback monitors or individual in-ear monitor sets.

Kelvin will use an EBS microbass 3 preamp/ DI box providing a feed to the main PA system via a balanced xlr output socket.

John will use a Boss GP-10 guitar processor with a single 6.3mm jack socket output to a DI box.

All other instruments are plugged directly into the PA via DI boxes.

Colin uses a Roland FA-07 keyboard with a 6.3mm jack socket output for a DI box, and a Taylor acoustic guitar with onboard pickup system with 1 x 6.3mm jack socket output for a DI box. Separate microphones needed at Keyboard and Guitar positions.

Paul uses a Yamaha P120 stage piano which provides a 6.3mm jack socket output for a DI box. Separate microphones needed at Keyboard and centre stage positions.

Dave uses an acoustic drum kit which needs to be miked up using 4 microphones.

The band use a mix of their own wedge monitors and individual wireless and wired in-ear monitoring sets, each of which needs an xlr feed from the mixing desk. Our wireless in-ear monitors are set to the frequencies 863.1 MHz, 863.850 MHz and 864.9 MHz. Please let us know in advance if your venue uses any apparatus likely to conflict with any of these frequencies.

However, for most performances we would normally use our own microphones, DI boxes, stage boxes and monitor system via our own mixer (and operator) which then presents a 2 channel stereo feed into the venue’s house PA system. We bring all necessary cabling. In the absence of a house PA system we can bring our own 3Kw full PA system with amplifier, speakers and subs by arrangement.

For theatres with video projection facilities our show can be augmented with slides which would be provided on a USB stick as a Keynote or Powerpoint presentation for Apple Mac or PCs as appropriate. When used in presenter mode this includes full prompts for the operator.

For outdoor events we would require a covered stage of at least 6m x 3m and a 13amp 230v power supply.
